Rohit Sharma becomes first Indian to hit 500 sixes in T20 cricket

Mumbai opener Rohit Sharma slammed Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over of the match vs CSK to bring up his 500th T20 six. Rohit is the first Indian batter to reach this elite feat.

Former MI captain Rohit Sharma became the first Indian player to reach the milestone of 500 sixes in T20 cricket. Rohit, whose tally stood at 497 sixes before the match, slammed Jadeja for a maximum through the leg side in the 11th over of the match to reach this rare milestone. The India captain was in a punishing mood in MI vs CSK, at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, 14 April. Sharma helped MI get to a rapid start in a chase of 207 runs on the day.

Rohit Sharma is the 5th player overall to attain the milestone of 500 sixes. Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Colin Munro have reached the milestone of 500 sixes before him.

On the day, Rohit got off the blocks quickly against CSK and batted at a brisk pace with Ishan Kishan. With Kishan, Rohit added 70 off just 43 balls with Kishan and gave MI a chance of chasing down the mammoth total set by CSK. Rohit remained steady at one side when MI lost two back to back wickets in Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. The right-hander added 60 off 38 balls with Tilak Varma for the 3rd wicket and reignited MI's hopes. The batter was forced to slow down after the 12th over due to some excellent bowling from CSK unit.

At the time of writing, Rohit Sharma was unbeaten at 78 off 51 balls with MI needing 59 runs in the last 21 balls. MI had lost the wickets of Hardik Pandya and Tim David in quick succession and had made it difficult for themselves to chase the target down.

Rohit has batted at a high strike-rate throughout the Indian Premier League 2024 season, which bodes well for India for the T20 World Cup 2024.
