Liverpool missed the opportunity to return to the top of the Premier League as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Manchester City remain at the summit following their emphatic 5-1 win over Luton Town and the Reds could fall further out of the race should Arsenal beat Aston Villa.

Liverpool toiled and were denied on numerous occasions by Dean Henderson, first through Luis Diaz and then Darwin Nunez in the second half. The best chance fell to Diogo Jota after Dominik Szoboszlai crept in behind but valiant defending from Palace kept the Reds at bay.

Jurgen Klopp's side could've found themselves further behind but Jean-Philippe Mateta squandered two opportunities. Firstly in the first half when the forward raced through after Virgil van Dijk's slip but saw his effort cleared off the line by Andy Robertson before an outstanding reflex save from Alisson Becker thwarted the Frenchman.

Curtis Jones missed a guilt-edged chance as he raced through but couldn't apply the finish, firing wide one-on-one with Dean Henderson. Tyrick Mitchell was also on hand to frustrate the title-chasers as he was on hand to block Salah's effort.

Liverpool will be looking to end their winless run next weekend in the Premier League but face a stern test away at Fulham, with the Cottagers picking up an impressive win away at West Ham United.
